Planning Agile – 10:45
Session Title:Transforming to Agile Processes in the Organization
Speaker: John Galioto
Agile methods focus on outcomes through the use of such things like User Stories, so that the implementation detail of any solution is negotiable and that we keep focused on delivering the value. If that is true for WHAT we deliver, why isn't the same said for HOW we deliver? These two things are inextricably linked, and the effective blending of the two creates enormous value when done well.
A way of working should be tailored for the specific organization, project or team, which takes into consideration the context of any situation and the desired outcomes of the project. A known and named methodology might be a good starting point, but it rarely covers all elements of bringing new ideas to fruition in the most effective way for the business. As the agile movement continues to develop, we suggest the focus be on the three outcomes: value, flow and quality. The method(s) used to solve the problems within an organization can be tailored to drive towards the outcome(s) desired.
This approach requires a different mindset. It is a mindset that values learning, empiricism and economics that move you towards a goal and support your purpose. Being able to articulate a clear goal and purpose will help us be successful and allow us to inspect and adapt what we are delivering as well as how we are delivering.
